"Wanted you to have feedback from our weekend. Disapointment. From the moment we arrived, the stay was not what I expected for the money I had spent. We arrived at about 6pm to be told that the hotel only had 5 parking bays, which were full, the one we had chosen had a sign saying 'hotel guests' but the chap on reception informed us that we would be wheel clamped if we parked there? We had to use the general parking on Jubilee Square. At no time did he inform us that the parking on Jubilee Square was R7 / hour - and we parked there for Friday night through to Sunday lunchtime. When we were leaving we found a parking invoice on our car - which I refused to pay. I was told that they would just debit it from my Credit card anyway!!!! - Now Im sorry, but, shouldnt the hotel either have enough parking for 1 car at least per room, or, have vouchers from the parking company. It is unnacceptable that I am expected to pay for parking when a guest at an 4 star hotel. There was no valet service, porter or any offer of help to get our suitcases up to our room. When we booked in the receptionist didnt ask us about which newspaper we wanted, as advertised on the web page, and so we did not get any newspapers at all. When I asked at reception when our newspaper would be coming I was told it was too late as they are organised in the morning, so we GOT NO NEWSPAPERS ALL WEEKEND. Not Friday, Saturday or Sunday - even after we had complained. I would have expected the recptioist to have organised papers from the shop across the road if needed. On arrival in our 'suite', the most expensive on the list, we discovered that it was nothing more than an average sized room with 2x 3/4 beds squashed in (There is now way those are queen sized beds, and how do they think that it could possibly sleep 4 - as per web page - I dont know!!!!!!) This room has no balcony, only a double door opening on to a juliette balcony. I had to ask them to bring another chair into the room as it only had 1 chair, not good enough when we had booked for 2 people. When we questioned the room, we were offered a luxury suite downstairs, with a balcony, which would have cost us less than the pokey room we got for premuim rates!!!! Please tell me how this works. I would like to know why the rooms with the same view, same size AND with a balcony cost approx R90 less pppn? On the web page it talks about a restuarant onsite offering 'breakfasts fit for royalty' Well we had to walk down the road to the Central Hotel, above the bottle store for breakfast. Certainly not luxurious and definatley not fit for royalty. The breakfast itself was no better that the bla breakfasts one gets in any average B&B. Not good enough. When we arrived back at our room after lunch on Saturday, housekeeping had not been through the room to make beds etc. This is the first time I have been expected to sit around all day in an unmade up room, when I asked for them to come and do the room, I was told that they tidied occupied room last in a day. So those who have not arrived, and those who have left take precedence over those still there. Tea and coffee making facilities were no better than any old B&B, I expected better from a 4 star hotel. We had tea and coffee on Friday, finished the supplies and they were not refilled at all during the weekend. I also expected to be able to get decent coffee on the premises, it is OK to have Catura coffee and longlife milk in the room, but the hotel should at least offer decent filter coffee etc somewhere on the premises. Come Sunday we recieved an invoice which had some tourist tax on it R14 x 2 and also stating that we were to vacate by 11am - after getting a late book out organised. About 1/2 hour later the receptionist phoned to ask when we would be leaving as book out was at 11am. Clearly a lack of communication. IN the end we left early as sitting around in an unmade up room, while people made it clear to you that you have overstayed your welcome is no fun at all. The only saving grace for this room was the view. I hope something can be done about this sorry state of affairs. This will be the review that I post on the web page if I do not get an appropriate reply from the hotel and it's management. This is the first time I have had such a disaster with online booking, as you know I have booked a number of holidays through you and have had no real problems at all. Hope this can be sorted."
"Beautiful, clean, stylish rooms. We had a great stay! From the reception to the amenities, everything was perfect! The view from the balcony was absolutely breathtaking and the items in the minibar exceptionally well priced. All in all, a great experience. Will definitely be back soon - for more than one night. Thank you very much!"
"One could not ask for a better hotel or location in Simons Town! The Quayside Hotel is situated right on the Harbour and our spacious and well decorated hotel room offered a breathtaking view of the boats and beautiful bay. The hotel has so much history with quaint old pictures everywhere, including olden day maps and a picture detailing about 20 different sailors’ knots. There is also a beautiful model of a ship in the Reception area. The hotel highlights the mariner theme and character that is Simons Town. Being less than a minute walk from the pubs, shops and restaurants you couldn’t ask for more. Enjoy a drink in the local pub that feels like it’s been there for hundreds of years, or have some delicious fish and chips from the ‘Salty Dog’ which is a firm local favourite. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy then there are numerous other restaurant choices dotted along the main road. The staff at Quayside were very warm and welcoming and made our stay a truly terrific one, thanks for a great time. I would definitely return to this hotel, and strongly recommend it as a hotel of choice for anyone seeking accommodation in Simons Town."
