Bergplaas Nature Reserve

In 1998, Princess Irene of The Netherlands bought Bergplaas and so began a highly personal, fifteen-year-long journey during which she embarked on the ambitious plan to return the land to its original pristine habitat and to enable people from around the world to rediscover their connection with nature!

Bergplaas Private Nature Reserve is situated in the heart of the South African Karoo Highlands, tucked away in the Sneeuberg mountain range of the Eastern Cape, high above the ancient plains of Camdeboo. With its 7,000 hectares of rehabilitated wilderness, the nature reserve offers a series of magnificent views, from open plains, mountain streams(only flowing during summer rainfall), 300-million-year-old rock formations and trails made by the Eland, Black Wildebeest, Springbok and Zebra that will take you on a journey through the abundance of indigenous flora nestled away at an altitude of around 1,700 m, that keeps the hidden magic of Bergplaas, a mystery...
