Die Kaia

On the banks of the Little Fish River, approximately 4 km outside Somerset East on the Suurberg/Addo Road/R335, you will find Die Kaia. Every morning the fish eagle will announce the break of day and if you have the opportunity, you can see how the bushbuck enjoy a drink of water while the otters play around in pure joyfulness.

Along with your early morning coffee and rusks you will hear the birds singing to tell the world that the morning has broken and that it is time to enjoy life. If you have a fishing line in the water, you might be lucky enough to catch a carp, yellow fish, catfish/baber or eel.

There are four Tented Houses available, each equipped with electricity, coffee, milk, sugar and rusks. One tent has a double bed, the second has two single beds and the other two have bunk beds. The camping site is close to the main establishment, but we do offer camping on the main site at no extra cost. The caravan park is newly built, with ablution blocks and electricity available at most points.

We cater for functions such as weddings, school groups and children parties. Experience whatever activity is currently happening, whether it is shearing time for sheep and goats or harvesting time for maize or Lucerne.

Things to do at Die Kaia include braaiing, swimming, tube riding, canoeing on the river, fishing, horse riding by arrangement, birdwatching, hiking by arrangement, the use of a big screen TV for sport, a licensed bar in lapa, a wireless Internet hotspot, as well as team building activities.

  • "Lovely view on the mountains"

    25 May 2021

"This establishment was certainly not up to standard. The lawn was poorly cut, some areas were completely overgrown (gas cylinder storage area). In both ablution blocks only one light bulb worked, making some of the cubicles completely dark at night. The ablutions were not clean on arrival but was cleaned after we arrived. It is clear that they did not expect us, even though we booked. We will not visit this establishment again, in fact it should not be listed by SafariNow."
