St Helena Bay is a popular tourist destination, particularly during the spring wild flower season. Visitors from all over the world come for relaxation and recreation. Ancient granite hills and boulders form a backdrop to the village and offer stunning views of the bay and across to the Piketberg mountains, while the white sandy beaches are perfect for beach-combing and even a refreshing dip in the Atlantic Ocean.
Storm Petrel is a two-bedroom cottage situated approximately 1 km from the lovely sandy beach and safe swimming waters. There are two bedrooms; the main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has twin beds and a full family bathroom.
There is also a fully equipped open-plan kitchen, dining room and lounge leading out onto a patio with a braai area. The house boasts lovely sea view across the bay to Lamberts Bay.
St Helena Bay is one of the most popular bays for whales to visit and calve. From August to November, the Southern Right whales come in to the bay to calve and can be viewed from the shore all around the bay. Humpback whales are also present in the area. We accommodate small pets
Heaviside dolphins are found in large numbers at any time along with schools of Dusky and Common dolphins. Large groups can be seen chasing fish along the shore or simply flying through the waves out of sheer enjoyment.
"We stayed in the unit below the main house's balcony. We loved the living area, beds and bathroom, however the kitchen wasn't really fully equipped to what we expected. There was also a scorpion in the bathroom which we only discovered on the last day, not sure where he came in as we didn't leave any door open. It was a bit scary especially with the small kids. Overall we had a good stay and we would visit again if we need a place to stay again while we rent our house out. Thank you."
"Warm+ friendly welcome, spacious +clean accommodation, good view of habour from veranda.Johann lives next door always prepared to help."
"The guesthouse was big enough with all necessities that any person could expect from the guesthouse. The owner needs to unblock the shower drain, not a big issue though. In general, the place was great."
"We loved the facilities within the cottage and its outlook over the harbour. Walking up the hill behind the house was beautiful, to see views from the rocks there. What a stunning peaceful place and thanks so much to the very friendly owners, Joe and Cheryl."
"One bathroom is not ideal for a family of 4"
"The house and amenities are great with nice braai and pot supplied. Walking distance to De Palm, a lovely pub and restaurant run by Patrick and Kobus. Beatiful views over the bay and port."
"The owners are lovely people however the accommodation is not suitable for more than one family. The back bedroom can only be accessed through the bathroom and the front bedroom is separated from the kitchen with a curtain. The accommodation is in the basement of the owners' house so ventilation in the back bedroom is through a small window; the bathroom window has possibly never been opened (cobwebs as we opened it) & the front bedroom had no windows to open at all. Privacy and ventilation were therefore the main issues. Also the door between the back bedroom and bathroom does not close which created further privacy issues. Johan and Cheryl are lovely kind people however so feel bad writing this but would have liked to have an honest review like this before we booked there. Because we were 2 families and realised our friends were closer to Velddrif and they had space for us we ended up staying only for one out of the three nights we booked."
"Thanks for accommodating us this weekend. Was lovely sitting outside and looking at the sea. Joe was very informative and friendly. Thanks"
"Very nice place to be! Neat, elegant! Very very friendly owner Joe!"
