Kookfontein Rondawels

Kookfontein Rondawels is the first of its kind in the Namaqua region and is a replica of the Nama huts but in a modern style. The walls are decorated with quartzite slabs and round stones from our area. The rondavels blend in with nature and they are cool inside during summer.

Kookfontein Rondawels offers self-catering chalets which have en-suite bathrooms with private shower rooms. Each chalet has a spacious kitchen and a TV to give our client as much comfort and privacy as possible.

    07 May 2018

"While the accommodations were rustic and rather basic. Some basic maintenance would improve things greatly. It may also be an idea to create some uniformity with regards bedding and bath towels."

    05 November 2017

  • "We made a bad choice based on your photo."

    24 October 2017

"The manager was helpful but the condition of the unit was appalling and I would NEVER stay there again or recommend it to anyone. The only thing going for it was its location. Have rated everything except location 1 star as there was no choice of anything lower!"

"The Kookfotein Rondavels should honour their committments! We were bumped off and offerred a really bad alternative in a house in the onderdorp. Eventually found a place in Port Nolloth! Please refund our payment as soon as possible.Kind rgeards, Wynand Malan 082 467 2481 Kind regards, Wynand Malan"

  • "Disaster"

    03 September 2017

"The booking of 4 chalets for 8 people was not honoured as other people were already in those rooms. We were told that there would be a lot of noise from the other residence and we would be better off staying in a house in the village nearby. We proceeded to the house and were shown rooms whereby couples would have to sleep in the same room with other couples and not in seperate rooms as booked. Other persons were already in residence who would share fascilities. WE DECIDED TO GO ONTO SPRINGBOK AND LOOK FOR ALTERNATIVE ACCOMODATION. I WILL BE ASKING FOR A REFUND DUE TO PAID SERVICE NOT BEING DELIVERED. THIS IS NOT A THREE STAR ESTABLISHMENT, AT VERY BEST A 1 STAR. I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE."

  • "the was no highlight to this stay"

  • "Friendly service"

    14 July 2017

"The staff was friendly and helpful. The accomodation needs attention. The coach in the rondaqel was very dirty. The cutlery can at least be matching styles. My son got serious flee bites from the linen and bed."

  • "What you see is what you get (but ow, the mozzies!!)"

    08 July 2017

"What you see is what you get; a clean, basic, functional place to overnight at a very good price, with very friendly staff.I could, however, not sleep there; by 10pm when it became obvious that mosquitoes where going to keep me awake, I re-packed my car and continued my travels. This is so easily remedied - please, please, please - a quick spray before guests arrive?I also didn't realise that the rondawels are right next to the N7 (I mean, RIGHT next to it); sound-sensitive sleepers, 'hou verby'."

  • "Kookfontein fail"

    02 June 2017

"No Wi-Fi, as advertised. Also, no working stove, an empty pool, broken door handles, broken towel rail, only one towel for two people."

  • "Kookfontein rondawels"

    03 May 2017

"This place is desperate for a major upgrade!! The mosquitoes and cockroaches will carry you away. The weeks dustbin bags get placed just outside the door of the room for collection. The toilet outlet has major leak onto the bathroom floor, the stove's one plate does not work, the miss match of crockery is chipped. There is no mattress protector and the mattress is very dirty. The only positive is the staff are friendly. This place is a definite NO. I wont even give it 1 star!!"

  • "Beware the Mozzies."

    22 January 2017

"Clean and neat BUT: you need serious weapons against the mosquitos, full artillery and nuclear.... We could not stay a moment longer than 05h00 in the morning (and we are normally late sleepers). The mozzies are deadly!!!!!<br/>Staff friendly."

  • "04/08/2016"

    28 August 2016

"Our stay, at Kookfontein Rondawels, was rather unpleasant. The advert is misleading. Being given a check-in time and arriving an hour late, we had to wait another hour for our rondawel to be cleaned. We booked a room with two single beds but were given a double bed instead. The bathroom had no door-only a curtain. The kitchenette did not have the basics and the crockery dit not match. It is not value for money and would not be recommended."

  • "Disappointing evening"

    06 January 2016

"<p>We stayed over at Kookfontein Rondawels on 30 December 2015 and although we were prepared for very basic accommodation, the stay was rather unpleasant. </p><p>When we arrived, the receptionist met us in soaking clothes with a towel over her head after having jumped into the pool with some of her friends shortly before then (in the presence of our other friends who had arrived before us). She and her friends continued to occupy the pool until late that evening, whilst playing loud music, so we were essentially unable to use it. </p><p>The night was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning and no fans in our room. The beds were squeaky and hadplastic covers underneath the linen, so every time someone moved it caused a disturbance. The linen is extremely old and we were reluctant to sleep on it. </p><p>There also seems to be a sewage problem which caused an unpleasant smell outside our window.</p>"

  • "WARNING: Loud all night + overload of mosquitos"

    13 January 2015

"We, a young European couple, have never experienced something like this, in a negative sense unfortunately. We were the only people who stayed there that night, so it seemed, and were looking forward to a early night sleep so we could get up before dawn and continue our travels. After the reception had already been closed, a group of 6 middle aged local men checked in in just 1 room (??), with 4 female "visitors" during the night. I had been told that these visitors were prostitutes from the local town, which has been confirmed by the group later that night to me as well. as of 7.30pm, they set-up a braai (BBQ) in the middle of the chalets, and started partying in an extremely loud fashion. I have never experienced a group that much intoxicated in my life. But OK, we left them in peace, until it became after 11pm and the noise got only louder and louder with drunk shouting people, and the worst part: they parked a massive 4x4 Toyota Hilux next to the BBQ, switched on music at the highest volume and were not planning to stop this at all which was extremely disturbing. I went over there to ask them to bring the noise down in a way to nice manner, and after 10 minutes they parked the car on the other side of their chalet as kind of compromise, which didn't make any difference of course. Long story short, we didn't feel safe at all with 6 extremely drank and shouting guys having an all night party with prostitutes next door, so we left it. It didn't get quiet until 4am though. We planned to complain at reception the next morning, but they seemed to be close friends, having smokes together, laughing and joking, leaving the impression that this was not the first nor the last time (as is confirmed by the other review here from Jan. 13th). Also the overnight guard, a very nice person btw, did not / could not do anything about the noise and partying, and hinted that it was not the first time either. On top, the chalet was so full of mosquitos that we gave up killing them with our self-brought spray and books after number 10 died on the wall. My girl friend ended up with more than 15 mosquito bites all over her face, the only part she kept above the sheets. So bring your mosquito net if you'd still want to stay here despite the above mentioned disturbances."

  • "A good night's stopover"

    15 July 2014

"We stayed one night on both our outbound and inbound journey to Namibia. The chalets are basic but clean and comfortable and have hot showers, decent bed linen and SABC TV channels. The kitchenette has all the basics to cook for yourself or to keep drinks in the fridge, but although they have coffee/tea/sugar canisters on the counter they were empty, so not sure why they provide them. Considering that Kookfontein caters mainly for adult overnighters or flower time tourists, we were very satisfied. The ONLY thing we do not like about them is the flimsy curtain that separates bathroom/toilet from the bedroom. We prefer more privacy and would have liked a door of some kind. Payment arrangements worked well, but balance had to be in cash, so go prepared. The security gateman was very helpful and will let you out as early as you wish to depart."

  • "Back in Time"

    24 June 2014

"This was an unusual place, probably originally an old road works camp it is being re-purposed. It was comfortable, but dated. The electrics need to be worked on - could not have the kettle, the TV and the heater on in the room at the same time. No cold water in Eyams made flushing the toilet and showering interesting. There is not much to see in Steinkopf (Kookfontein), but this stay was a true African experience."

  • "Value for money"

    17 July 2012

"A very welcoming place! Clean, spacious and very good value for money. The rondavels contain everything you need for a sleepover and the extra blankets and oil heaters were very thoughtful elements for winterweary travellers. The fact that there is a security guard on duty all night makes for troublefree sleep as you don't have to worry about your car full of luggage. Will definitely stay there again!!"
