Sugar Shack

Sugar Shack is spectacularly situated on a sandy dune in Eastern Beach, so close one can literally step into the cool damp sand of the shore. Sugar Shack is in the original life savers' building which has a cool sun deck, a big and comfortable TV area, a very cool lookout tower, and clean, comfortable and rustic accommodation.

Here one can check out the surf, tanned bodies and the ships going in and out the harbour, or just watch the whales and dolphins go by.

We're a Baz Bus stop, or if you're travelling by mainline bus, the terminus is just around the corner. We can help guests get the best rates on car hire and will happily assist with expert travel advice.

We're also within easy walking distance of the local restaurants, pubs, clubs, supermarkets even East London's very own little aquarium, complete with jackass penguins and performing seals.

    "The staff were very helpful and friendly. Fantastic view. Just a pity that on one of the evening people had booked in. And made a noise the whole night we were not able to sleep that night. Visitors should take other people into consideration seeing that their were contractors that had to work the next day."

    "This backpackers is a hidden oasis in East London. We stayed in a double cabin, which was perfect. The bed was comfortable and we had our own balcony overlooking the ocean. There are shared showers and toilets, so I that is not you thing you may not like it, but we didn't mind at all and didn't have any awkward run ins. Staff is friendly and chill as well. Highly recommend if you are in the area."

    "The accommodation it's self wasn't very bad. The service however was disappointing. The lady who welcomed us was very rude and didn't even have the time day to listen to our concerns. That's why I'm giving it 1 star. She made it very clear that we're only there to sleep and go. I don't think I will go back there."

    "<p>Not what we expected. My wife and daughter had to bathin a communalbath room. I was looking for an en-suite type of accommodation. We were supposed to stay for 2 nights, butonly stayed for 1 night and checked in atan alternative accommodation.The noise levels from the entertainment area down stairswas very high.Thatkept us awake till very late.Accommodation not suited for Family.</p>"

    "We had a very warm welcome from the stuff n the guy S'thera who was on duty. Safety was guaranteed. We had a great stay , our cabin was nice and clean plus we viewed the sunrise in the morning which was beautiful. Awesome place! we coming back again for sure!"

    "I have no problem with backpackers, and in Sugar Shack defense it looked clean, BUT, there was no secure parking, and the chap who 'checked' me in was more interested in my whereabouts than anything else. It is along the Esplanade, and that is a rough area. Being catcalled to while walking across the street to my car was not on the to do list. I made alternative plans and did not spend a single night at the Sugar Shack."
