  "Archie is a perfect host...his lodge is built with attention to detail, the cuisine is really fine. The safari drive with the ranger at Addo Elephant National Park was interesting! We suggest spending at least 2 nights in this fantastic location!"

  "Top design and equipment of the separate African styled rotundas. Excellent service, breakfast and dinner. Guided Addo Elephant NP- tour very recommendable. Ground is located on the edge of a high plateau with a wonderful lookout."

The service, food and wines were excellent and Archie and his team made us feel welcome the moment we opened the front door.The rooms are large and well decorated with all the luxury one can hope to find at a lodge. All rooms overlook the stunning Sundays river valley.I strongly recommend Hitgeheim to any traveller."

  "On arriving here we didn't think much as the "dirt track" reminded us of being on safari again!!However, once Archie opened the front doors, there was definitely a WOW factor to this place.We were shown to the bar area where we were given a glass of homemade lemonade while we checked in and our bags brought to our room.Once we were shown to our spectacular room (which had an outdoor shower, a wet room style bathroom and a 4 poster bed),we had some time to laze in the hammock on our balcony and drink in the views of the valley before our arranged drive to Addo Elephant Park (which was fantastic).We decided to have dinner at the lodge, cooked by Archie's wife, at a cost of R220 pp.Food and service was fantastic but expensive compared to what we had paid in other restaurants in SA.Sitting on the huge veranda after dinner sipping wine was very relaxing and romantic.Although this place had everything we wanted and hoped for, the extras such as minibar, wine from the wine cellar and the honesty bar, were expensive in comparison to all of the other places we stayed.Overall, a great experience, highly recommended but pricey in comparison!! "

  "This was a wonderful experience, and we wish we had had more time to enjoy it, especially their entire eco-farm - we could only be there for one night.If you are into food and wine, you definitely have to make this one of your stops!As we were traveling in the middle of winter, we were the only guests there that night, but they still prepared and served a full dinner for us!A terrific wine cellar.Very comfortable and spacious suite, with a nice large bed, and a wonderful bathroom, including an outdoor shower with a view of the entire valley and countryside below.It feels like you are driving to the middle of nowhere, but it's worth it.They also hooked us up with a wonderful guide to drive us through the Addo Elephant Park, and she was terrific.We had just done 6 days of safaris in Botswana, but this was still wonderful to do and really added to what we had already seen and experienced."

  "We stayed at Hitgeheim for 3 nights and it wasn't long enough. The place is absolutely breathtaking. The rooms are huge and absolutely immaculate and the views really are spectacular. Its difficult to drag yourself out of the shower when you've got views that good!! Archie and his staff are lovely and really can't do enough for you, the food is lovely, something that you would expect from a city restaurant, and the wine cellar needs to be seen to be believed. From the complimentary drink on arrival, breakfast, a walk round their private reserve to dinner and a very relaxing evening its all completely unforgettable. We were very reluctant to leave and hope to return as soon as possible."

  "We thought Hitgeheim was very good. Archie was a perfect host and very helpful. It was very good to see some of their animals up close just a stroll away. My only gripe about the room was that the toilet should have a door - call me old-fashioned I suppose.
  Reply from Op:- Our smaller room 5 has an open plan bathroom, however all other rooms are full en-suite. "
