Alpha Self-catering

Alpha Alpha Self-catering offers a two-bedroom, en-suite apartment with stone walls in the charming Karoo town of Sutherland on a self-catering basis.

The unit is perfect for a family holiday, with one room featuring a double bed and the other room two single beds.

Features include Wi-Fi, DStv and a fireplace for those cold winter nights, as well as a garden with barbecue facilities. All rooms also offer electric blankets to fend off the winter night chill.

Sutherland is well-known for its large telescope at the observatory, a mere 15 km from town, where day and night tours are also available. Night tours must be booked well in advance at Salt. 3D Shows also showed at the Planetarium in the main road.

The museum, the birthplace of the Afrikaans writers and poets, NP van Wyk Louw and his brother, WEG Louw are worth a visit, as is the Dutch Reform Church, with its beautiful organ and history of the Anglo Boer War.

"Overall it was clean, neat and tidy.However the one toilet did not flush as no water could enter the cistern.This was very distressing. Further the two plate mini-oven was faulty as it could not get hot enough to cook a meal. We had to use our own portable gas stove. It was an eyesore to look.at.The driveway had a huge crater which caused damage to the underside of my car.Ive never seen a driveway entrance like that. Its ok for a 4x4 but not a car!Apart from the above all else was fine.Nevertheless I would never use it again nor recommend it to anyone due to the poor standard of the toilet, stove and driveway entrance."

"We spent two nights at Alpha Bed and Breakfast on a self catering basis. Everything one could possibly need was there including a wind up lantern should the lights fail! Each bedroom had its own toilet shower which was great for our small group of oldies. The full DSTV was unexpected. For the price we paid and the accommodation plus extra's we received it was great value. Lot's of local information supplied too so that our visit to SALT and the star gazing was perfect."

"Very nice place to stay within Sutherland. It was a big suprise to see such good accommodation in such a far off place. The place is very clean and comfortable. We will recommend it to any person that wants to visit Sutherland. Breakfast was also very nice."
