Blesfontein is situated 28 km southwest of Sutherland in the Northern Cape. This large working farm offers nine self-catering rooms, each on a different part of the farm.
The stone units are all basic yet offer all the necessary amenities for self-catering. Each unit has its own bathroom facilities and most units have an indoor fireplace or a braai outside.
The farm itself offers a large terrain to explore either by taking a long relaxing walk or heading out on your mountain bike. There is also an abundance of animals and bird life on the farm. In the cement reservoir next to the Poplar trees down the hill we have a lot of friendly Koi fish.
The tame farmyard animals are harmless and friendly. Although all the animals are fed regularly you are allowed to feed them at any time of the day. Please note that as a result of our tame farm animals we cannot allow visiting dogs.
"We had an amazing time at this truly special place. Being on the edge of the escarpment at sunset was incredible. Good place good people"
"Loved the farm animals with there interesting personilties."
"Loved the stargazing experience, the rooms were very neat and the reception a warm welcome! We had one of the take-away meal options and the portions were more than satisfying. All the animals wandering around the yard were such a unique experience. The only thing I would change, is staying longer next time! Can't wait to visit again - thank you Nicol and Marina"
"A lovely little unit."
"Nicol and Marina are very welcoming and friendly hosts. Nicol's stargazing was fascinating and he is full of interesting stories."

"Wonderful hospitality and friendly owners.Amazing view from the escarpment.Loved the farm animals.Self catering rooms are well equipped with all that you would need."
"This was by far the most beautiful farm I've ever seen, the complete silence allows you switch off and unwind. The perfect weather to snuggle up in a cozy bed and share stories and laughs. A romantic getaway for couples and a lovely place for a family to go on adventures. The drive in the farm bakkie to the escarpment was an absolute thrill. The silence is deafening and the view takes your breath away. It is a sight you'll carry with you forever. The stargazing given by Oom Nicol is magnificent, endless knowledge of the skies, which you could sit and listen to all night. Lovely calm horse rides given by Tannie Marina, definitely an experience I'll never forget, the horses on the farm are some of the most gentle I've ever come to meet. The cutest and fluffiest alpaca's I've seen and the most adorable lambs I've seen. Our hosts were incredibly hospitable and made us feel as if we are apart of the family. This is the place to be! Cody and I cannot wait to visit again. Three nights was way too short. Thank you for the most incredible hoilday, beautiful views and memories that'll last forever!"
"We were incredibly fortunate to have a beautifully clear evening for star gazing with the awesome Nichol as well as waking up to gorgeous snowfall in the morning. It would have been great to have some cozier rugs/ wall heaters in our unit- it was freeeezing! It would have also been great to have more of an idea of what the kids could get involved in on the farm- they would have loved to help out but were unsure of how."
"Very hospitable hosts."
"Excellent accommodation, wide open spaces and the stars"
"Beautiful, peaceful & quiet. Dark skies & bright stars are the perfect combination for this getaway. Kids can enjoy the farm, freedom & animals.<br/>The accommodation, though rustic, was spacious and had everything we required. <br/>It is a paradise for photographers & star gazers.<br/>Nicol is very knowledgeable, we had a great experience with his informative talk and the telescopic viewing of the stars & planets. <br/>Marina, thank you for the delicious breakfast, those homemade muffins divine. <br/>We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. <br/>Thanks for your wonderful hospitality & friendliness Marina & Nicol. <br/>The only negative for us, was the road to the farm, we had car not a 4 x 4 or SUV, it felt like a never-ending journey!!!<br/>All in all, well worth the visit. <br/>Regards, <br/>Rose, Suzanne,Sharon & Tristan<br/>"
"a perfect option to ecperience farm life! Neat snd clean accommodation with friendly hosts!"
"<p>Nicol and Marina were very hospitable and recommended various routes for us to travel on the way back to Cape Town, we tool there advice and went to the escarpment, what a beautiful view, we then went over the Ouberg Pass, what an experience.</p><p>Unfortunately the weather was overcast, so we did not get to see the stars, which was the main reason for the trip, but on the farm they have a couple ofpot belly pigs and some Lama's which are very tame and kept us occupied.</p><p>The breakfast we hadwas excellent.</p><p>Overall a good weekend.</p>"
"Marina and Nicol go out of their way to make sure everyone enjoys their stay and their advice on what to see and do around Sutherland helps the traveller discover even more sights and experiences that will stay with them for a lifetime. Thanks Marina and Nicol for a memorable stay."
"We could not have wished for a better start to our holiday. It is (far) off the beaten track. We stayed for 2 nights - we should have stayed longer! Our hosts, Nicol and Marina, were very hospitable and made us feel so welcome in their wonderful environment. The farm is so peaceful. The view from the escarpment is breathtakingly beautiful. We drove there with snacks and drinks - there are picnic tables to appreciate the view in comfort. (It would be possible to walk there - for keen walkers/hikers).We took long walks on the farm - it is peaceful and quiet. The farmyard is "open" - amazing to experience: potbelly pigs, chickens, lambs, horses, alpacas, koi fish and rabbits. We made our reservation on rather short notice and landed in the "smallest" annex - it was basic but adequate - and did not detract from the surroundings. We booked self-catering accommodation and the kitchen and indoor braai facilities were sufficient to prepare basic meals.I felt like a child and wish I could have shared this with my godchildren. We had lambs in our room!! And the pig visited on occasion too....Nicol is a keen and very knowledgeable "star gazer" and the evening spent around the telescope in the amateur observatory was something to remember forever. His enthusiasm and love of sharing his knowledge is a pleasure to see.I am grateful that we were in a 4x4 and would strongly recommend that you arrive long before dark (to appreciate the environment and not to drive on the unknown roads at night)Most definitely going back. Although only about 3 hours from Cape Town it feels like a different (much calmer) world out there."
"The hosts went out of their way to allow us a wonderful stay. Great accommodation and magnificent meals. Such lovely people and would love to go back."
"Absolutely love the place. It turned what would otherwise have been a boring drive from JHB to CPT into a memorable adventure. The accommodation was great, but the star gazing was outstanding - unrushed and peaceful. The stars were as they should be. The suggestion to watch the sunset from the edge of the escarpment was inspired and the game spotting on the way out was an added bonus. Driving down Ou Berg pass really made whole trip for me. The warning from the Fortuner driver that he was having problems driving up over the drainage humps only added to the satisfaction of this Englishman in a Land Rover Freelander! So much more fun than a day on a 4x4 course. Thanks for a great stopover."
"We wanted peace and quiet, cold weather and snow and all our expectations were met! We'll definitely be back!"
"I read some reviews of Blesfontein. It all made mention of peacefullness, the hospitality of the hosts and the telescope and star gazing. Exactly what we wanted! We were not fortunate enough to experience any of it! The hosts were on holiday in Botswana(without warning us when we made our booking!),and therefore we could not look at any stars, because the "stand in" host didn't know how to operate the telescope. We were "dumped" into a "sub standard" big house...together with another family who we didn't know at all!!!A family with 3 very noisy impossible toddlers!!No stars, no hospitality, and absolutely NO peace and quite!! Never again!!!"
"The most friendly people we've ever met stays at Blesfontein! Stunning views over the mountains and an excellent place to be peaceful and quiet."
"Thank you to Nicol and Marina for a lovely snowy break away on their farm. It is an experience that I will remember for a very long time."
"Die gasvryheid was ongelooflik vriendelik en altyd gereed met die ietsie ekstra; lammers melk gee, kyk na die maan en meer. Ons het dit baie geniet! The hospitality was incredibly friendly and they were always ready to help with that little extra, lambs milk provided, looking at the moon and much more. We enjoyed it very much!"
"Wonderlike mense in 'n wonderlike wereld."
