A unique bed & breakfast located in the beautiful, historic town of Swellendam, right across from the Drostdy Museum. Expect a warm welcome, clean, spacious rooms, super comfortable beds and luxurious cotton percale linen. We offer 6 en-suite rooms all with separate entrances and private patios. Our swimming pool has stunning mountain views and offers welcome relief for those hot, summer days.
Our restaurant is shaded under large oak trees and overlooks the Langeberg Mountains. Open for breakfast and lunch, this is the ideal spot for a quick refreshment stop.
As a family run business, we pride ourselves in always providing friendly, personal service.
"African shades is a good little spot for a road trip stop. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It would have been nice to see pictures of the rooms on the page before booking but they were pleasant. Its a great location within walking distance to local restaurants etc."
"All greatest - nice setting"
"Great stayFriendly staffBut when you are about to leave and asked to settle the account, one gets annoyedManager says Safari did not send proof of settlement to Shades of AfricaThank goodness that one anticipated inefficiencies and can back up your statementsDo I use Safari again?"
"Room was neat, clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi (although a bit slow) was adequate to do a little work."
"Very nice room with tv and bathroom with both bath and shower. Easy chairs for sitting in wine viewing tv. The breakfast was exceptional but we were asked not to have breakfast before 8. this was ok on this occasion but there may be times that one needs to get off earlier. There was no-one to meet us when. we arrived at about 4pm and we had to phone the host to let us in."
"Our stay at African Shades was lovely, from a very good room, friendly manager, and excellent breakfast. We will definitely stay there again!"
"Two minor problems: there wasn't a double adapter to plug in the fan (magnificent fan). Fortunately we had our own. No bottle opener to open bottles (not unsympathetic - can imagine it must the fastest disappearing article in any guest house)."
"<p style="text-align: left;">Lovely location with a veryshort walk to all the main attractions and restaurants. Spacious room with parking right outside your door. I especially enjoyed the extra cosy duvet and the huge shower.</p>"
"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and well appointed. Good value for money. Friendly reception."
