  • "Great stay in Port St John's"

    11 October 2016

"We spent 2 nights at the river lodge in room Madiba A. It was a wonderful large room right on the rivers edge with a large balcony. It was very restful and peaceful with many birds singing and the sound of the river lapping on the shore. <br/>The decor of the room was beautiful and had a wonderfully appointed bathroom with a copper tub. Our only suggestion for improvement would be for the lighting. There were some nice sconces and pendant lights, but the light in the bathroom was terrible. A fluorescent fixture above the door gave it an institutional feel, and there was not enough light at the mirror. We enjoyed he breakfast provides. Port St John's is a wonderful place. It's beautiful with two mountains on either side of the river. The people are very friendly, and we loved the laid back vibe.<br/>"

"It was disappointing to have the sand bank in front of the lodge which made fishing very difficult from N'Taba Lodge.<br/>The room (Madiba) was good - no complaints."

  • "Not as advertised"

    09 September 2014

"We booked and paid for two nights and only stayed for one - that's how unhappy we were. Our 'river view' overlooked the site of some new building and the actual construction was going on while we were trying to have a quite unwinding holiday. Resort claims to cater for all meals, but we were told that the restaurant would only open at 4pm. Around that time we went and found the receptionist who at least opened up the bar to give us a drink before locking it up again. She was helpful, but at a 4 star establishment that doesn't allow self-catering (there were signs in this regard all over the place) you don't expect to have to spend 20 minutes finding someone to try and help you with something so basic. The restaurant/bar didn't open for dinner until 6:30pm and as the final straw our chalet had no hot water."

"It was the first time for me and my wife to be in the Eastern Cape, and it started off great with our stay at Ntaba. It is beautiful there, and the staff went out of their way to cater for all our needs. I can and will recommend it to anyone who is travelling there."

  • "Beautiful location"

    28 August 2007

"Generally excellent resort, very well run and all the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Beautiful location and lots to do at the resort. Food could be hit and miss, really lovely on certain days then not so great on others. Would definitely recommend the resort to others."

  • "Great setting on the river banks"

    29 April 2007

"Lovely hut style rooms with simple furniture. Thatched roof which looks nice but comes with a slight hay-smell. However, everything is very clean. Meals are wonderful at very high standard. Staff is just great, attentive and good fun. The manager is very supportive and a great guy (and cook). Late check-out was no problem. Try the canoes for your trip to Port St. Johns. We would definitely come back and recommend the place."
