Arrive at Motswari, 'to keep and conserve', Private Game Reserve and leave as a friend. This sentiment is the hallmark of our traditional safari camp that conjures up elements of African nostalgia, romance and charm and combines these with warm, personal touches to provide you with a sophisticated, yet unobtrusive commune with nature.
Set deep in the Timbavati, in the heart of the Kruger National Park, you are assured of rich game viewing and sightings of the Big 5 in their natural environment, as our boundary with Kruger is open. In operation for 30 years, we have chosen to disregard the trend for glamour and flamboyance, which means bush as far as the eye can see and unobtrusive luxuries that don't intrude on your experience. Here your encounter with the bush is a still walk in nature.
The bush is a humbling experience where one should have the chance to unwind from modern stresses and rejuvenate the soul. Motswari is family owned and prides itself on its conservation values, exquisite cuisine, award-winning wines, luxurious accommodation and hospitality in the tradition of one of the original lodges in South Africa.
Each of our 15 thatched, en-suite bungalows is decorated in understated natural materials. The bungalows have air-conditioning, mosquito nets and spectacular bush and river views. Our professional rangers and skilled Shangaan trackers guide your early morning and late afternoon drives and excursions into the bush. With close on 150 square-kilometres of wide horizons and untamed wilderness, Motswari is an unforgettable experience.
"Our weekend at Motswari was perfect - a beautiful lodge in the heart of the wildlife reserve, offering simple but very comfortable accommodation, exquisite food, perfect service, and a great programme of early morning and afternoon bush drives, every day. We had the privilege of seeing hundreds of animals, including the 'big five' up close in their own environment. The highlight of our trip was a close encounter with a hyena while returning to the lodge in darkness one evening - he inspected us disdainfully from about half a metre away, then went on his way. Altogether this was an inspiring adventure - but don't expect to sleep much, the morning bush drives start at 5:30 am!"
"A wonderful stay at a lovely lodge. Staff so friendly and helpful. We were lucky enough to have Eric and Difference as our game drive team. They're the best! Jan and his catering team were superb. Area for improvement - maybe the food. It was fine but has potential to be better."
"Great folks, great Reserve very kind service staff and competent rangers"
