Buffalo Thorn Safari Lodge

This 4 star luxury lodge is part of a private game reserve and offer luxury accommodation for an overnight stay or a family break away. Our new colonial styled accommodation embraces nature at every turn and offers al the privacy and superior comfort you would need for uninterrupted relaxation.

Four luxury air-conditioned chalets have en-suite bathrooms, outside rock showers, bar fridges and coffee bars. The main building has its fireplace, satellite TV lounge, Wi-Fi and dining room leads on to the big hearty stoep, overlooking the waterhole and makes for great entertainment. The stoep also leads to the swimming pool and the boma, forming the perfect place to bring family and friends together around a crackling fire. The big well equipped kitchen leads onto the stoep.

Our new Retreat offers luxury family accommodation upholding our tradition of elegance and comfort in a setting close to nature. This sire offers accommodation to an additional 24 people and are ideal for family gatherings with its large bomas and swimming pool area.Buffalo Thorns philosophy of simplistic luxury and getting back to nature is not only enhanced by the accommodation but also mark the professionalism and service of our well trained staff.

Apart from the daily service, our lodge manager will attend to all your needs at night fall- from lighting the fire and setting the table to assisting you in the kitchen. Here in the heart of the African Bushveld you will be refreshed and uplifted by an inspiring sense of open and unspoilt space, big skies, compelling views and an unmistakable closeness to nature.

The in- house buffalo breeding program can be viewed from the viewing deck opposite the lodge whiles enjoying a sundowner or your early morning coffee.Game drives and guided bushwalks are some of the activities you can enjoy during your stay. Our tracker and ranger is a real delight with an unparalleled knowledge of animal behavior and a passion for sharing that with people.

Other activities in our surrounding area are a 9-hole golf course, a crocodile farm, teagarden and a predator park, all within 60km traveling distance. Limited trophy rifle hunting and especially bow hunting safaris can be arranged during the hunting season.The essence of a visit to Buffalo Thorn Safari Lodge is the chance to slow down and absorb the natural beauty of a landscape uncluttered by noise and pollution.

"The accomodation was very nice but the air con was very noisy and there were bad noises coming from the roof the whole night so we didnt sleep well at all. Not sure where the noises were coming from but we think its from the roof expanding and contracting. The drawer where the cutlery was kept was also filthy. We didnt really want to use any cutlery from that drawer.The people were very friendly and the farm is lovely."

"I was surprised when we got there regarding the accommodation as it was quite confusing comparing what I received as confirmation of our stay. My confirmation of my stay stated:"The Retreat offer luxury family chalets with 2 en-suite bedrooms, complete kitchens, living are with DSTV, a patio with a build in braai over looking the water hole as well as a swimming pool area. x 2"Our chalet was not looking over a water hole and the swimming pool was not close by, it was by the common area but this was not clear on the description and didn't know where this was. This was important to us as granny was looking after our little one when we had to attend a wedding, so she could not easily access the pool and had to walk a distance if she wanted to take our little one to the pool. In addition, I'm not too sure if I would call the chalet we stayed in as a "luxury chalets", it was a very simple chalet and the air conditioners where not that great. The lodge is rated at 4 star, from what I experienced I'm not too sure If I would call it 4 stars. But from a staff perspective, they were friendly and the place was nice and clean."

"A "tyre-drag" on the main access (Council) road would be a boon for access ... its not far and a drag is easy to make/use with a tractor, taking out the corrugations! Otherwise the tranquil surroundings, and well-appointed accommodation is great. WiFi also a great service."

"Upon arrival we felt a bit out of place. No clear indication of where to find reception when you arrive after dark. No explanation to what facilities there are. If they have breakfast or lunch or where we could find the nearest store. We where there for a wedding and there was no hot water for us and no one at reception to report it to. The aircon made one hell of a noise so we rarely slept. When we checked out, the manager which we had to go find did not even know that we still owed money and how much. We could have left without no one noticing that the bill was still outstanding. Nice idea and concept but very vague on details and management"

"Loved the units and the surrounding bushveld, Very friendly Managers and staff even offered to show us where our friends were staying on the other side of the Buffalo breeding camp (yes thats right) awesome family units with me being a Hunter myself couldn't stop starring at the wide variety of game (massive KUDU) . Only other comment i have is we would have liked the option of dinner and breakfast....O and please load new photos when advertising , it is a stunning place and the photos doesn't really show that."

"The cottages at Buffalo Thorn are some of the most comfortable and well equipped that we have come across. Everything one could need for self-catering is there and in addition by asking in advance, Milton the very capable manager of the cottages will produce a very good braai. As we had traveled from Kasane that day it was a great relief to be able to sit back and have supper served on our stoep while we watched a group of kudus feeding."

"Chalet itself was very nice, clean and modern. No one at the Reception to greet us, we had to phone around to find someone. We were not allowed to use the pool as Americans had booked it, although on the website it says you have a pool and thats the reason we booked there, so our kids could swim. Further, had a good nights rest and loved the rock shower."
