Situated on the banks of the beautiful Berg River, Buffalo Drift offers couples a secluded getaway thats both romantic and affordable.
There are four comfortably furnished tents with bunk- or double beds and en-suite bathrooms. Each tent has a private patio and a fully equipped kitchenette for all your self-catering needs.
Guests can spend their days lazing on their private stretch of the riverbank, or by taking a refreshing dip in the fresh water.
While waiting for an amazing sunset, enjoy a braai under the clear sky. Once the stars appear, guests can appreciate the quiet untouched beauty of nature while listening to the sounds of nocturnal life.
"We booked from the 5th till the 7th March. We arrived at 16h00 and where surprised to see how nice it was there. All went well till 18h00 when totally loud booming music came from the venue called the fort about 300m from our tent. This went on all night till 04h00 the next morning. At 10h00 it started again till 07h30 the next morning. We could not get away from the noise at all. The neighboring tents also came to chat to us about the music and agreed this was totally unacceptable as we where promised a quiet romantic getaway as per the website. We hardly slept the weekend as a tent cannot block the sound . This morning we could not wait to leave which was not the norm at other camping sites. Was not a pleasant experience at all."
"It is nothing like the photos. We only stayed one night and checked into another place. Photos are photo shopped. Gardens around tents where you braai is not maintained. Wind was bad the one night we stayed and we couldn't sleep due to winds shaking the tent. Not luxury at all as advertised. Can't swim in the river to cool of on a hot summers day as it is full of spoils and u might get seriously hurt. No shops or even garage close buy to get nessecities. Just a bad disappointment overall."
"We absolutely love this place. The air-conditioning was a very welcome add-on since our last visit. The only suggestion would be to add a small desk or table to work on inside the tent, as there isn't space to prepare food. An information leaflet with activities on the farm and around the area would also be very nice. We'll definitely see you again soon."
"What a beautiful place! We had a wonderful time just relaxing on the deck, and rowing in the canoe. We saw all kinds of wildlife and such a large variety of birds. The farm manager was very helpful and we felt very welcome. I would, however, suggest that you go there during fall and winter, as it was extremely hot during the day. Thanks again, can't wait for our next visit!!"
"We realy enjoyed our stay. No dull moment...fishing, swimming, kanooing, watching Waterbuffalo's being fed."
"We loved the tranquility of the place and the natural surroundings. The tent was clean, spacious and comfortable. The activities on the farm itself are a bit limited (not sure if it was safe to swim in the river) but overall we had a very good time."
"Perfect location for getaway from city life"
"What a wonderful place...as you sit on your porch overlooking the amazing tress and river, you find yourself becoming more tranquil as the hours pass by. I recommend using the canoes that are provided and exploring the river...what amazing sights! I will be seeing you very soon! Thanks for the hospitality and for a break that was definitely needed!"
"Loved everything about the concept of Luxury Tent Camp except for a few niggly irritations eg no Egg Lifter in the Kitchen. The water bottle left on the kitchen Zinc too heavy for anybody (age 70 and 73) to lift off. The way it was you couldn't get a glass underneath to fill with water. It should stand on its own table and not on the only bit of working surface. No bowls should you want to make a salad."
"Where do I start?! This was my first Glamping experience and my word I will never go back to roughing it out! My partner and I went for my Birthday and it is exactly if not better than what I had anticipated. The farm is absolutely breathtaking, the tented camp is situated right on the river's edge - so you have views all day/night and is well equipped with everything that you would need and pet friendly! Although the mozzies are out in full force at night - so best come prepped for that (after all you are in their land). There is so much room for activities in this place - you can take out the canoe and go down the river, fishing if you into that kind of thing, clay pigeon shooting, take a leisurely walk around the naartjie plantation, the wildlife on the farm was nice addition too, some Zebra's, Wildebeest and of course some BUFFALO just chilling it out...We met Hannes who is the Farm Manager and had a lovely chat about the farm, from the Add to dictionary they growing to what fish is in the dam. I will definitely be back with my family and recommend this place to any one looking for a nature loving experience!"
"what an absolute serene evening we spent at Buffalo Drift, clean, well contained luxury tent accommodation. will definitely be back - thank you Hannes for the nice chat we had and we appreciate your friendliness as it made us feel at home from the first minute we arrived."
"What an amazing place! Beautiful, peacefull and close to many wonderful wine farms. We had such a relaxing weekend away. We would deffinatly come back. Thank you to Buffalo Drift for creating such a cosy tented camp and for making us feel so welcome!"
"<strike>We spent the past weekend at the luxury tents. We had a great host Hannes who made sure we were sorted. Beautiful tent and a great place to get away from the hussle and bussle of busy life. Enjoyed our stay.</strike>"
"We had lovely weekend here, just bit of a hiccup with getting in the gate to start but once we were settled in it was relaxation time. You get the camping feel without having to bring everything from the kitchen with you, nor do you have to pitch the tent, or walk to the toilet in the dark with a torch! So arriving in the dark wasn't a sore point, hehe. It gets a bit hot in the tent during the day, but they give you a nice misting fan which helped a lot, and don't forget to take mosquito repellent as you are next to a water source and they can ruin your 'Peaceful sleep' if you are unprepared like we were the first night. But after a spray on the second night they didn't bother us at all beside a little buzz in our ear... all part of camping out in the natural bush! Fire place is nicely set up with grid provided. It's about half way between Tulbagh and Riebeck Kasteel, so both places are great for a day trip out for wine/olive tasting, if you don't want to stay at camp. Oh and you also get the use of a private canoe, so you could go for a bird-watching paddle down the river, we definitely will next time!<br />"
"<p>Well what can one say. Definitelynothing like the photosposted on the internet. I Think they should loose the word "Luxury"when they advertise their tented camp. I wish I could add the photos I took especially of the inferior cooking utensils. Dirty pan, no egg lifter and an old Hart pot without any handles. Even the wine bottle opener was broken - it only had one handle. Only one wine glass for a tent that sleeps 4. No really - it was shocking - to say the least. The ONLY positives were the double bed and towels provided. The bed slept very comfortable and snowy white towels were soft and nice to use. One ply hard toilet paper for "luxury" - not in my vocabulary. No safety jackets provided for the canoe and no safety railings along the deck. The wooden deck also has not seen any sort of treatment in a long time. Definitely NOT Luxury. Our Trailer Tent and accessories are way superior...........</p><p></p>"
"<p>The pictures in on the website much more glamarous than it actually is.</p><p>Basic needs was met. By just finishing offthe place will inhance the overall appearance of it.<br></br></p><p>Farm manager, Hannes, went out of his way tomake the stay an enjoyable one.<br></br></p>"

"We had a great time at , Drift. It wasnt quite what I expected with regard to Luxury Tents but it was better than your normal camping in tents. We did find the bathroom and shower not very clean but acceptable with regard to communal bathrooms as at most camp sites and unfortunately we did not have hot water the first night stay although our host was very apologetic and fix the problem other than that our dogs enjoyed the freedom and it was great fun exploring the farms surroundings."
"We spent one night at Buffalo Drift in Tulbagh this past weekend and we did not really enjoy our experience. Although the setting is beautiful and very tranquil, the service and facilities are not up to standard."
"Overall, the accommodation was fantastic, and the setting was beautiful!1. Right on the river - very peaceful and serene2. Tent is spacious and well set up.3. Beds are comfortable and bedding too.4. Addition of proper bathroom and double shower is great. However, the service needs attention:1. Upon booking they should tell you the roads are bad in sections and there is bad reception - an issue as we were unable to get hold of anyone upon arrival so drove around the property for an hour trying to find someone and check in.2. Some minor details were overlooked - only one bath towel, limited cutlery & crockery, no braai wood supplied as per the website.3. Activities mentioned on the website - the canoe had a hole in it, and there was not really anyone around to query this with and ask about what could be done in the area - a proper reception/check-in process is seriously needed.4. Very windy! Not sure if this is all year round, but there is a wind farm being erected nearby, which indicates this probably is quite a windy area."
