Mont Rouge isn't your typical fruit farm; we've gone above and beyond to establish it as a sustainable business. In our family since 1928, the property derived its name, Mont Rouge, from the reddish hue of the earth in this regionMont meaning mountain and Rouge meaning red. Beyond our export fruit house and wedding venue, we're proud to offer four charming cottages on the property.
We're enveloped by mountains and nature on all sides, enhancing the overall experience. Each cottage boasts its own Wood Fire Hot Tub and outdoor BBQ area, where many of our guests spend their time. While we do offer Wi-Fi, we encourage guests to disconnect from their phones and immerse themselves in nature's embrace.
We're thrilled to announce that our property is grid-tied, harnessing the power of solar energy and batteries. However, in the event of a two-day outage from Eskom and no sunlight, we may experience a power shortfall. Nonetheless, we're delighted with the progress and reliability of our transition so far.
The property features a single communal pool, resembling more of a natural pond with water freely flowing in from the river and then back out again. It's ideal for cooling off during the hot summer months or using as a refreshing cold plunge to soothe sore muscles.
We're conveniently located just 12km from town, making shopping easily accessible. In the surrounding area, you'll discover numerous excellent wine farms to explore, ensuring there's plenty to keep you occupied. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are plenty of cycling and running routes to enjoy, catering to everyone's interests.
"We went to stay in the honeymoon cottage over new years and we had a wonderful time. The view is out of this world, the bed is extremely comfortable and the location is stunning. The hot tub next to the stream is just the cherry on top!"
"We could have stayed a week! The setting is absolutely magnificent and the accommodation was amazing with a lot of attention to detail. It was the highlight of our whole road trip."
"For peace and tranquility, this is definitely the place to go. My wife, daughter and I loved the sound of the river and the beautiful views from our room. Thank you for a lovely stay."
"The cottage is amazing. The views and the sound of the river in winter. And the indoor fireplace is a highlight."
"A cosy cottage with great views and sufficient amenities. Not as cosy and honeymoony as advertised. No wood or firefighters supplied. WiFi not working."
"This is the most BEAUTIFUL place on earth!!!We have never stayed in a place that was so clean and tidy and just spectacular!!!Felt like we we're home!!!We will DEFENITLY visit again!!!Most Amazing weekend ever!!!"
"The cottage 1 is nice, clean, roomy and comfortable. However the cooking facilities / the size of the fridge / bathroom is not adequate for the number of people (10) that the cottage can accommodate. Cottage 1 is also semi detached and not sound proof - so if you are there for the quiet it is not pleasant. Beautiful surroundings."
"Wonderful place for a weekend getaway. Secluded and peaceful. Would highly recommend."
"My hubby and I spent a few days in the honeymoon cottage at Mont Rouge. The surrounding scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. The cottage was very clean and well appointed with lovely views over the orchards. The river running below completed the tranquility and was especially wonderful to listen to at night. The reception we got upon arrival was warm and welcoming. The only negative was the fact that we only got 2 towels for the entire period and they do not provide any complimentary toiletries so make sure you do not forget yours at home although the closest Town is only 12km away."
"We loved the cosy set up of the house...but could have had a bigger stove... was a bit difficult to cook for 8 on small oven and stove provided. Could not braai because of the rain .. or maybe braai undercover.."
"What a beautiful part of the world! Tucked away in the far corner of the valley, Mont Rouge is in a wonderful part of Tulbagh. We stayed in the honeymoon cottage, and loved the privacy, view, and ambience created by the stream running almost beneath the deck. Marisha was very welcoming, and the hospitality was exactly what we'd hoped for. We will definitely be back!"
"<strong>An amazing little piece of paradise. Had a lovely family weekend away. Enjoyed everything about the cottage, the farm and the area.</strong>"
"Ideal setting for a weekend away. Stunning views from the stoep. You can sit outside and relax while listening to the tranquil stream. Its stylishly decorated, and it has all the necessities for self catering. We were truly spoilt by the snow covered mountain tops, and kept nice and warm with a cosy fireplace."
"This is our second stay here. The tranquility of the gardens and the bird life are what bring us back. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and caters for all your needs."
