Montpellier provides a romantic setting for a country getaway, with a charming hillside chapel, a picturesque wedding venue and an old Cape-style guest house.
Our accommodation is located near the vineyards with large oak trees providing ample shade in the gardens. .
Enjoy a farm getaway while relaxing next to the pool, or take pleasure in a glass of red wine with a fire glowing in the background. A covered braai area and pizza oven are hidden at the bottom of the huge garden.
Guests can enjoy stunning views of the mountains surrounding Tulbagh Valley and the Montpellier vineyards, while horses graze near the manor house.
Montpellier was established in 1714 and has a long history as a working farm in the community of Tulbagh and the Cape.
"No comment, Krone was fun!"
"The cottage was not clearly shown in the pictures when you book. There is only a picture of the bed and nothing else. The cottage is run down and needs some working on. There were no bowls or cork screw available. The security car drives by twice during the evening and wakes you up with their lights shining through the extremely thin curtains. They then proceed to talk to the guard on duty! Very frustrating. They should be more upfront with what you are getting in terms of pictures so that you dont feel as though you are being led down the garden path! I wouldnt go back."

"We greatly enjoyed the scenery and tranquility of the farm. The view to the mountains was fantastic and the whole atmosphere very relaxing.<br/><br/>The staff at Montpellier is very friendly and helpful.<br/><br/>The accommodation - with a few minor glitches - is very comfortable and affordable"
"<p>Booked accommodation at Montpellier to attend wedding but was accommodated at a different venue, Constantia House in the loft.<br></br></p><p>1) Kitchen and bathroom shared with other guests. Walked into stranger in her nightgown in the morning.<br></br></p><p>2) Extremely hot inside the loft room, no air-conditioning or even a fan. No top sheet on bed, only duvet.<br></br></p><p>3) Unable to sleep due to mosquitos, my wife and I were very badly bitten. No insect repellent and no access to the reception at 02h00 in the morning to get some.<br></br></p><p>4) Light fitting about to fall from ceiling and insect infestation in ceiling - Health and Safety risk. Floor dusty, had to wipe feet before getting into bed.<br></br></p><p>5) Unable to stand upright when using the loo, basin and shower taps very dirty, used razor left on shower wall, floor needs painting.<br></br></p><p>6) Coffee and tea sachetssupplied in the kitchenette but no milk or creamer in the fridge.<br></br></p><p>7) Bed very uncomfortable, bed base is slatted with a spring mattress - disaster to sleep on.<br></br></p><p>In all, we did not sleep much and was very disappointed with the accommodation. The wedding venue and reception was very enjoyable.</p>"
"Rietdakkie not to expectation. Very basic. Not worth R500."
"Christmas at Montpellier couldn't have been more peaceful and downright magical. The rustic charm was the perfect way to celebrate Christmas. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the wine was really lovely!"
"There is a fine line between 'rustic' and 'shabby'. Having sticky tape covering cracks in the doors, holes in the blankets, chairs being used as side tables definitely does not qualify for being rustic. Cutlery was barely sufficient i.e. no sharp cutting knife and only two of each utensil. No washing up cloth. We can still overlook the ill matching furniture but the holes in the plastered unsealed floors, the cracks in the walls and the overall dampness creates a shabby feel."
"We loved every moment. Beautiful surroundings, excellent service and friendly people. Thank you for a lovely time."
"Beautiful setting. Attractive interesting accommodation; we used self-catering cottages. Service satisfactory."
"The farm was lovely but we were disappointed in the accommodation for the price paid."
"A wonderful step back in time, friendly welcoming, comfortable, inviting, luxurious. A definite revisit. We will gladly recommend it to our friends."
"We had a wonderful stay. We stayed in one of the rietdakkies. Some of the previous reviews have awful things to say about them so my guess is that they have since sorted out all the problems. we found it perfect for our needs. It was clean and functional, the bed was comfortable, and there was a lovely fireplace inside, and they have an amazing view. It is very simple accommodation but we could find no fault. We didn't want to leave. We had a small issue in that they geyser was off when we wanted to shower, but it was sorted out quickly and they gave us a bottle of their award-winning wine as an apology, so we were very happy."
"A beautiful guest house in pictures setting very warm and friendly management rooms with old charm."
"I really want to comment the owners of Montpellier! Our host or manger of the weekend (think her name is Zee) was absolutely marvelous! I haven't met such friendly and and the ball hostess before. We had a marvelous time at Rietdakkies! Many thanks."
