  "Lovely old cottage that we stayed in. The farm had a lovely pool too cool off in and you can walk around the grounds and vinyards as you please. We were greeted warmly and loved the large windows in the bedroom that could be opened early morning. Could have a little more utilities for self catering (basic spices)"

  "Schalkenbosch exceeded all our expectations. The cottage is beautiful - thick stone walls with thatch. It is fully kitted out for self catering. A huge amount of wood is supplied for the outside braai as well as for the inside fireplace. We loved our stay and will definitely be back."

  "The cottage is located on an estate 10mins from the center of town which allows for spectacular views of the tulbagh mountains with the birds' singing being the only thing to be heard. Loved my stay in the one bedroom traditional old cottage! Very peaceful with a lovely braai area outside and a fireplace inside. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming.Would highly recommend this place for a relaxing weekend getaway."

  "The cottage though charming needs some supervised cleaning. Old unwanted kitchen appliances obviously not wanted at the main house were passed on to the cottage. TV so old that it did not even have a remote, as for advertised DSTV, which was non existent. Had to move plastic table and chairs (cracked seats so body parts got pinched), from the front to the back area so that we could sit by the braai."

  "Unfortunately we only stayed for 1 night but wow - what a beautiful place! The accomodation was clean and comfortable, the views were beautiful and the wines were delicious! An evening stroll through the vineyards to watch the sunset was the perfect way to start the night! A braai under the stars accompanied by the family dogs was all we needed! Thank you to Catherine for being such a great host and to the dogs for being such great company! We will be back! Candice and Simon Maskell"

  "Jill, our host was so welcoming on our arrival. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The estate is beautiful and the view of Tulbagh was lovely in the day and breathtaking by night. Jill even recommended a route for a stroll around the farm. The evening was so peacefully. I would definitely recommend a stay on the wine estate."

  "My husband and I had a lovely relaxing weekend at the beautiful Schalkenbosch Wine Estate. Although the venue was fully booked for the long weekend, the estate was serene and quiet quiet throughout our entire stay. We were hardly aware of any other guests. We especially enjoyed walks in the vineyard, lounging by the pool and the most breathtaking sunsets I have ever seen. Thank you, Jill, for a lovely stay. I will recommend Schalkenbosch for anyone wishing for a relaxing break from the city. The website hardly does it justice."

  "To put it bluntly, we won't go back or recommend it.Had difficulty getting in, had to phone to have the gate opened.The cottage needs maintenance, ie a ice cream bucket under the tiolet pipe in the bathroom - for leaks, toilet seat - cheap plastic.Many notes on "Please do this do that" but no "Welcome and enjoy your stay".Cottage was not attended to on the Sunday morning, no bed made - no fire place cleaned - no dusting or sweeping.Overall not happy."

  "We arrived at Schalkenbosch just in time to enjoy a magnificent sunset. We enjoyed wine from the estate beside the fire. Pity we had to leave so early the next morning. We had left something behind in the cottage in our mad rush. Jill was extremely helpful with getting it back to us - thank you!"
