Rose Bella B&B Umtata

Rose Bella B&B is situated in Mthatha or Madiba country, as the beloved statesman, Nelson Mandela, was born in the nearby town of Mvezo. Accommodation is offered in five comfortably furnished bedrooms, each equipped with a TV and DStv and furnished with a double or queen-size bed. The en-suite bathrooms consist of showers only, with one bathroom containing a bath only.

Guests can relax in the communal lounge or make use of the fridge and microwave in the kitchen. Breakfast is available at an additional cost. Parking for 10 vehicles is provided and all the rooms are non-smoking.

Mthatha lies at the heart of the Nelson Mandela Route, established to give structure to the area for visitors who want to explore his history. The route starts in King Williams Town where guests can visit the grave of Steve Biko, the leader of the Black Consciousness movement and moves through Bisho along the N2 to Umtata. The Nelson Mandela Museum was opened 10 years to the day after Madiba was released from prison.

For nature-lovers, the Dwesa and Cwebe Nature Reserves, Hluleka Nature Reserve and Luchaba Nature Reserve all offer a variety of bird and wildlife. For the golfers, the Wild Coast Golf Course offers 18 holes and is ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in South Africa.

"room was clean bed comfy but had sprayed 1/2 can of air freshener and it took over an hour with doors open and fan on before we could go inside. So had to sit outside on the pavement because there is no where to sit outside at all. Was overpriced for what you got. Only stayed here because we had to break up the driving. There is not that many choices in this city."

"No air- conditioner. No window or extractor in the bathroom. Water in shower almost non existent. One bath and one hand towel per room.Nobody to welcome on arrival or see you off at departure. Breakfast was not good. Rooms are cosy and clean. Nice quiet environment."

"I was very impressed with this GH which was newly established. My room was large with new king size bed new linen. Wooden floors and DSTV (limited channels). People very friendly and breakfast was nice. Scrambled eggs would have been nice for a change. Kitchen needs to be stocked wilt essential cutlery and a oven that works. Do not be discouraged by external appearance."
