Hilltop Cottage

We have two cottages on Farraway Farm. Luxurious Hilltop Cottage, built on the top of a hill giving it an unsurpassed view extending tens of kilometers down the valley with the massive mountains in Lesotho in the background. Our second cottage, Shepherd's Cottage, is a one bedroom cottage which we completed in Sep 2018. Both cottages have verandas with braai areas. They also have wood burning fires (complementary firewood), so you will never be cold when everything outside is covered in snow! Hilltop Cottage and Shepherd's Cottage have Openview satellite TV. The cottages are about 400 m apart, so they are completely private. Both cottages are fenced and are pet friendly.
Farraway Farm is 90 ha, and neighbours Parks Board land which borders Lesotho. Over a km of the Mzimude River runs through the farm, and we have a dam. The circumference of the farm is about 5 km. You may see wild eland and reedbuck come down from Parks Board land to drink from our river. And, at night, you are likely to hear jackals howling.

Hilltop Cottage has two en-suite bedrooms and a large living area cottage is luxurious, quiet and very private. It has its own fenced garden that is about an acre, and is about 200 m from the main farm house.

We are completely off the grid, NO LOADSHEDDING!!!

All you need to bring is your food, camera and walking shoes. And some carrots if you want our horses to love you!

    "This beautiful cottage has an almost perfect location. Overlooking a stunning valley, mountains and a water lake. We arrived late at night so waking up to the mind blowing views was truly magical. The cottage itself has everything you need and more. Comfortable beds (with electric blankets), every kitchen item you would need, plenty of wood to Braai and make a fire in the fireplace, hot water, DSTV etc. you literally just need to bring your food.Stephens plot and the surrounding farms have some really excellent walks (also includes some old rock art), which offer an excellent excursion. You can choose how much effort you want to put in.Our dog also had a great time.Would definitely visit here again."

    "We were looking for a quiet spot just to chill and recover from a hectic few months at work. We are self employed. The cottage turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. Quite and peaceful. The furnishings and fittings n the cottage are first class. There was nothing we needed. The fireplace was awesome at night and heated the whole cottage (it is well insulated so you do not feel the cold). We did not do any of the walks as i had hurt my back - but they looked truly awesome. The Superspar in Underberg proved to be a pleasant surprise. We need not have taken food with as we could have got everything there are Johannesburg process. The range is truly amazing.The hosts were exceptional and friendly. We would definitely go back again.PS Our Chihuahua enjoyed the place as much as us"

    "We recently had a wonderful week staying at Hilltop Cottage. The cottage is so comfortable and was a real home away from home for us. The beds are comfortable, and the house is more than sufficiently equipped which made our stay a pleasure. But more impressive in the setting. The view of the mountains from the cottage is brilliant. Linda and Stephen made us feel right at home on their farm. We did a few great walks and spent hours by the river which runs through the farm, swimming and relaxing in the most beautiful natural setting. A week well spent in the peace and quiet if nature.
