  "Umzimkulu Lodge has a beautiful , scenic, healthy environment with good service from the owner.<br />however pygmy cottage is in bad condition and lacks grill/baking cooking facilities. Cottages need major renovation. It was a pleasant stay if you can endure the run down cottages. But we still had fun and a wonderful time on the river, the walks are amazing - recommended stay if willing to compromise on rustic lodges.<br />"

  "We spent a wonderful and relaxing family holiday over New Year in Woodland Cottage at the lodge - it was really well set up for a large family group with kids coming and going and lots of people gathered around the table for eating, chatting and playing games. Had great fun tubing down the river and the kids spent hours riding bikes and playing in the river. A great place to relax and reconnect for a few days. Staff and owners very welcoming and helpful."

  "We had booked the cottage with a steep stair but my wife was concerned that one of us would fall. The resort kindly upgraded us to the other single accommodation, a beautiful room in an amazing garden. We had a wonderful stay. Our only mistake was going to Underberg for lunch, the Lemon Tree or some such, which was awful. Thanks."

  "We spent the long weekend in the Bower Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff and owner are very helpful and pleasant, the food is very good, both breakfasts and dinners, and anything you ask for, they ensure you receive. The accommodation was cosy but comfortably big enough. We had an awesome weekend."

Although the Drakensberg was very dry and not like we expected it to be, the tranquility was awesome, just what we needed for our holiday. The hosts were extremely friendly and kind. I would definitely recommend this resort; we felt at home from day one."

  "We spent an evening in Pygmy cottage and absolutely loved it. You truly have a piece of heaven and thank you for sharing it with us. I wish we could have stayed longer but we will be back in December with friends to enjoy it more. Thank you to Nuh and Bongani, you really do go the extra mile and are very friendly. I must say we especially loved the cats that curled up on our laps in front of the fire. Really made us feel at home."

It was great to arrive in the mist and sit around the cosy log-fire sipping a glass of red wine and sleep with the sound of the mountain stream in the background. We awoke to the lifting mist and calls of a red chested cuckoo and enjoyed the scenic 4 X 4 drive to the top Sani Pass via Himeville to visit the highest pub in Africa. When back at the lodge relaxed on the rocks in the river, swam and walked the area. Really a nice relaxing weekend."

  "We enjoyed a very relaxing two nights at Umzimkulu River Lodge in the quaint Pygmy Cottage. I enjoyed the trout fishing even though the water was slightly discoloured due to recent rains. The Gorge fishing was particularly exciting."

  "Pied Cottage is beautifully situated and airy, although cold, but the fireplace makes up for this. Very quiet, and good facilities. In winter quite dry and brown, but winter has its own kind of beauty: crisp, white frost in the mornings, lovely sunshine days."
