In the heart of the Kalahari and the peaceful town of Upington, you will find Aardwolf Backpackers. Our establishment is built on the principle of providing affordable, clean and safe accommodation for the weary traveller.

We offer double and twin rooms as well as a dormitory room option for the true backpacker. We invite you to kick off your well-worn travelling shoes and relax in our lounge with full DStv. Enjoy a relaxing evening in the braai area with its ever faithful ceiling fan. Our communal kitchen offers all the necessary appliances for cooking your favourite meals and it is fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans.

Secure parking is available and your vehicle, whether a butch 4x4 or a reliable family car, will be safely locked up behind our security gates at night. As everyone wants or needs to communicate with someone back home, or make those last minute travelling arrangements, we offer a wireless Internet connection. Arrangements can be made for transport to and from the airport or bus stop.

"had a 3-night stay at Aardwolf in early December 2014. I found the facilities to be basic, but satisfactory. The owner Liesl is an absolute gem and really went out of her way to make me feel at home during my stay an Aardwolf. At R150 per night for a private room this has definitely been the best value backpackers Ive stayed at in South Africa. Good location too just a 5 minute walk to the Kalahari Mall where you will find supermarkets, a pharmacy, eateries, clothing stores etc. etc.Liesl and her husband are in the process of doing the place up and she was fretting about increasing the rates to cover costs. Seems to me a price-rise is long overdue! All the best to Liesl with your endeavour Aardwolf may be the only backpackers in Upington, but it has character and my stay there far outstripped subsequent stays in newer, fancier hostels in some of the bigger urban centres in S.A. Stayed December 2014, travelled solo"
