The Orange River, one of South Africa's major rivers, is truly one of the purest adventure trails in Southern Africa. The Gariep River, or Great River as it is called by the local Nama people, offers a unique outdoor experience to those who seek tranquility and adventure. The Orange River cuts through the Richtersveldt Desert Reserve and is now part of the Transfrontier transformation parks. Days are spent with early morning paddling, swimming, floating, bird watching and negotiating some rapids and fast-flowing water. Guides will take you through the steps of paddling through rapids, hiking and in general discover the ecosystem of the desert.
"Absolutely stunning!!The view of the Orange river is absolutely amazing. Tents are stunning with the aircon being a blessing during the hot days.Steph and Dirk are great hosts!! We'll see you on our Namibia trip. All the best with your new endeavor."
"It was an abso;ute pleasure staying here."
"Fantastic hosts that go out of their way to help. Superb food!"
"Very practical, well equipped and decorated luxury tents. Just pack lightly as you have to take a short walkway to your tent. Two very nice braai/kitchen areas with everything you need. Extra attention to detail made our stay very comfortable."
"With a name like " Frontier RIVER Lodge" one would expect atleast a river view, not a view onto a lifeless gravel road. The facilities are neat and tidy but the canvas tent structure is unbearable hot and the aircon is not big enough to make it comfortable during the afternoon. The advert is abit misleading, very pricey for what you get."
"The tents are nicely furnished. Pool and entertainment wares nice with good views. Just beware of the heat, aircons do not help."
"Lux and very neat tents. Barfridge in room was not cold when we got there. Friendly reception."
"We ended our Namibia Road Trip at Frontier River Resort this December , is was an absolute pleasure - like arriving at a sanctuary even though it was 42 degrees in the shade !<br/>Hosts Christine and Graham have made really taken care to make the place special , well looked after , clean , a wonderful pool and friendly dogs ! The aircon in the tents was also a life saver for a good nights sleep ! I would definitely visit again !"
"Luxury comfortable tent/chalet with well equipped kitchen/braai area. Noise from across the river made sleeping difficult.<div><br /></div><div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Establishments Response:</div><div><br /></div><div><span style="line-height: 16.9px; font-size: 13px; color: #333333; background-color: #fefef0;">Thank you for your comment/review unfortunately I have no control of the noise factor in Namibia with just the Orange River dividing us but I did find out that there was a public holiday and the local Namibians had some sort of a celebration going on over the time period that you stayed here.We normally have absolute peace and quiet here with just the birds waking us in the mornings.</span></div><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; border: 0px; line-height: 16.9px; word-break: normal; word-wrap: break-word; color: #333333; background-color: #fefef0;">Kind regards</div><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; border: 0px; line-height: 16.9px; word-break: normal; word-wrap: break-word; color: #333333; background-color: #fefef0;">Christine</div></div>"
"Wonderful and peaceful stay in Frontier river resort.<br />Christine and her husband really nice and kind. <br />Thank you:-)<br />Silvia and friends.<br />"
"It was value for money.<br />Very clean. Owners very friendly.<br />Just too hot in Dec.<br />The owners must just consider the visitors when\<br />they partying in the evening with their friends.<br />From 23h-2h was a bit noisy when they chat, braai.<br />It's just at the back of the tents where we slept.<br />"

"What an unexpected wonderful surprise!<div><br /></div><div>Lovely comfortable beds, lovely company and service, clean grounds, spotless rooms with everything you would need. They can even cook a wonderful scrambled egg for breakfast!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you so much for hosting us, will surely be back on the long trek to Windhoek, next time!</div><div><br /></div><div>Regards</div><div>Sonette & Wander xox</div>"
"Although we arrived late, we received a most friendly welcome from our hosts. The tents were immaculate with quality furniture, so was the bedding as well as good and beautiful towels. The shower was brilliant, with little pebbles under your feet, it felt like a foot massage! The equipped lapa was a winner!!! Definitely worth as stayover on/back from the beautiful Namibia."
"Frontier River Resort is off the beaten track and a offers a welcome night after a long drive from Cape Town. The tents are comfortable. We didn't have enough information about what was supplied so we didn't have drinking glasses or soap. We made a braai with food we took along in a lovely spot at the end of the tents. The rock garden is done so well by the gardener and the Manager was very friendly and entertaining. We had a wonderful swim in the River, below the tents."
"We had a very pleasant stay but cooking facilities would have been inadequate if the place was full."
"We were happy with the accommodation provided."
"Six great chalets but tucked away down a slope with insecure parking, carrying of luggage and personal insecurity as no contact person. There is NO RECEPTION or anybody there! You are supposed to phone a cell number! A feeling of vulnerability and owners getting quick money for little input. Chalets should have parking and someone to BE THERE... What a pity that it is so inadequately serviced! Could be a great stayover. And the chalets do not look like this picture here."
"The accomodation was nice thank you. We have a complaint regarding the eating facilities, having to drive 5km further on to Bushwackers to have supper (chicken potjie) which we feel was overpriced. There were no condiments besides salt and pepper and when we asked what was for breakfast the next morning the young chappie said that he would have to think about that. We promptly cancelled breakfast as we thought we would be sorely disappointed and R75.00 p p for breakfast that couldn't even offer you tomato sauce is definitely not an option."
"A breath of fresh air welcoming you into a new day is a blessing. The view is spectacular from your doorstep. The place(chalets)is beautiful."
"Fantastic!"
"This is quality accommodation, but they need to add more braai areas. With only one boma area, between four to five tents, it can create a problem. Th staff are friendly and helpful."
"Beautiful oasis on the Orange River! The staff are extremely accommodating. I would definitely recommend the resort."
"What a pleasure. A new venture but run with aplomb. Our host, Cornelius Verwey, made us feel very welcome. He knows what he wants and does not stint on service. A great thinker and I look forward to visit again very soon. A gourmet breakfast was served at the lapa and was a delight. I would give this venue an A plus."
