Die Pomphuisie is a charming self-catering house in a true West Coast style, situated right on the beach in Paternoster. It has uninterrupted views over the Atlantic Ocean.
The main house has two double bedrooms and two bathrooms, of which the main is en suite. There is a loft area with an old brass double bed and two single beds, as well as a living area with a TV. The living area downstairs is open-plan, leading onto a sunny patio.
The flatlet has a separate entrance, equipped with a double bed and en-suite bathroom. This is the ideal accommodation for a family as well as pets.
The property is only a stones throw from the Voorstrand Restaurant, which is set in a 108-year old tin shack. Paternoster is a small, white-washed fishing village situated about 150 km from Cape Town, up the R27/West Coast road.
"There was no TV in the house, the dishwasher did not work at all, there is no privacy in the rooms, you can hear everything what happens in the house everywhere, it seems that there is no ceilings. It is a mission to shower as there are no showers in main house."
"The location of Die Pomphuisie is excellent. It is situated right across the road from the main beach and has magnificent views! The enclosed garden is ideal for pets and children which is great. Having said that, I feel the house could do with some updates. The utensils in the kitchen are all very old and the cutlery is a bit all over the place. The loft upstairs is a great space, however the staircase is not suitable for children as it is very steep and takes a lot of concentration not to fall. The bedrooms downstairs were very comfortable. The smaller of the two bedrooms has no cupboard space which could be easily rectified by the owners. There are two bathrooms downstairs, and neither has a shower. The main bedroom has an en-suite with a large bath in it and a hand held nozzle attached, but you are not able to use it as a shower. The second bathroom also has a bath and a hand held nozzle but unfortunately this hand held nozzle was broken for the duration of our stay. The outside 'cottage' was unfortunately a disappointment for us. The bed, bedding, and towels were of a much lower standard than in the main house. There is a shower in the en suite of the cottage which was a bonus but the water pressure was not great at all. The electricity box is situated in the cottage which unfortunately makes a constant ticking noise. And the cottage has no insulation at all, making is quite cold. There are also no security gates at the doors to the cottage, so leaving valuables in here is simply not an option. I would suggest to the owners to put up signs in all the bathrooms reminding guests of the dire water situation in the Western Cape, and to try and keep baths as shallow as possible. My suggestions would be to upgrade the bathrooms by having showers installed, which would be more convenient for guests, as well as being more water wise for the environment. There is also no TV in the house at all, which for a weekend away is no problem, but for a longer stay, especially with kids, would make the stay a little better. All in all, we had a lovely weekend in Paternoster, and loved being so close to the beach. The house is absolutely adequate but would be exceptional with a couple of updates."
"It was a great weekend in Paternoster, fortunate with great weather, but tainted by a break in at the house during the night resulting in some personal belongings stolen. Only to find out that petty crime is a feature of the town, with little indication by the owners of such and what measures to take, during booking and on arrival. what made it worse is that we contacted the owners via message of the incident and have not heard from them at all, no interest in our well being, what happened, what damage to their property, nothing ... will definitely not stay at the pomp huisie again ..."
"My partner and I spent four days at the Pomphuisie and found it to be the best of three units we have stayed whilst in Paternoster. Homely, not luxurious, but what a view!"

"We really enjoyed our stay. Peter the care taker was an added luxury we appreciated. The location is prime. The views breathtakingly beautiful. The house setup is great and has everything you need. We will definitely return cor future holidays."
"A wonderful family house on the beach, offering just about everything one could ask for. The house is beautifully situated right on the beach and a stones-throw from the Voorstrand Restaurant.<div>Extremely well equipped and Peter, the Malawian housekeeper was a blessing. Comfortable, clean, plenty of space, sea views from every room, we were in paradise. Both adults and children alike had a glorious time. There is nothing I can fault. Highly recommend.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>"
"What a lovely relaxing comfortable stay, it was delightful, enjoyed by everyone. Just a pity to see that it is for sale. Ideal location. Such a friendly Malawian caretaker. Well worth it."
"A lovely relaxed long weekend. House very comfortable - would definitely go back again!"
