• "False advertising"

  "I loved the surrounding areas and view of Vredenburg. However, the guesthouse itself was an utter disappointment. The advertisement mentioned a jacuzzi; however, we were not allowed to use it. We could not shower on a whim as we had to schedule a time with the owner for them to put the geyser on. When the geyser was on, the water was barely warm, indicative of a faulty geyser. The advertisement also mentioned DSTV; but the television did not have DSTV and did not even work properly. My partner and I brought a flashdrive along which did not work on the TV even though there was nothing wrong with the flashdrive itself. The advertisement also mentioned a pool; however, the pool was filthy and we could not use it.The only thing I enjoyed about the place was the benefit of the domestic help who was friendly and kept the place tidy."

  "Just stayed over one night, but was very impressed by this room. The hostess called while we were still en-route just to confirm arrival which was very nice. The hosts are very friendly and our back packers room with its own shower and toilet was spotlessly clean. The room is very small with bunk beds but just fine for a sleep over and leave situation. I will highly recommend this establishment."

  "Firstly, this is the first ever complaint/review we've made about any guesthouse/hotel/b&b we've stayed at and we've stay at many across the world. We arrived a bit earlier than we had expected, about 3 hours but this shouldn't have been a problem. We paid a bit more so we could get the Jacuzzi suite. Our room was decent enough although we weren't aware the shower doesn't have any kind of curtain or doors to stop water flying onto the floor and with the bed only about 2 meters from the shower you can imagine the problem this might cause. This is where the problem started, while we were filling the Jacuzzi it ran out of hot water so we ended up in a bubbling luke warm back and no hot water again until the morning. The shower would only work if you held the shower 'button' in and to do this you had to be seated with 1 hand on the button and 1 hand holding the shower. There were also parts of the ceiling that were in a terrible peeling state (This was apparently our fault because we came early and they didn't have time to paint - so had they painted we would have slept in a paint fumed room??) We were attending a wedding in Vredenburg and the host was kind enough to lend us her iron BUT this was where all the problems really started. We were unaware that the iron leaked if you left it on its side so when it was given to us we put it on the bed for 2 minutes. Some water leaked out and made the bottom corner wet (The same bottom corner that's 2m from the open shower). We also took bottled water from the fridge but when we 'opened' it the seal didn't break like normal, this was because it had been opened and filled with tap water! Worse still was that the mouth piece was all salty, who knows what or who drank from that before us. The cheek was that it cost R10 to buy the bottled tap water! The host of course denied this was tap water and were being “crafty” by trying to save R10. After spending over £3000 to make this trip does she really think we would try skimp our way out of £0.75! After we left I received an email demanding R900 to pay for 2 night’s accommodation because they had to turn people away due to a wet bed (The same bed that's 2m away from the open shower!) really? The place was dead and even if they had people to turn away they had plenty of other rooms. What's more, they should be changing the sheets between guests anyway! If it was a problem with the bed being slightly wet then a flip of the mattress or a hairdryer would easily solve the problem. I'm sure with the open shower being so close to the bed this problem has arisen before. Seems to me she was out to make a dishonest buck because she knew we would only be there one. Seema, this is not how you treat your guests and in a town as small as Vredenburg with limited thoroughfare you really should treat your guests better."
