Duinepos Chalets

Duinepos Chalets is a retreat for bird and nature lovers. The charming Chalets are situated inside the West Coast National Park, located 15 km from the Langebaan Lagoon and 17 km from the Langebaan town centre. The camp is based inland amongst the natural bush.

We offer 11 self-catering Chalets which sleep four to six guests in each. It is secluded and quiet making it one of few places where one can still wake up with only the sound of birds. This is why birders from all over the world migrate here for the Duinepos experience.

What started out as a community development and black empowerment project has since grown into a worthy, socially responsible business. We provide excellent value for money and our affordable rates ensure that we can share the experience with as many guests as possible. We have a definite greening philosophy that we implement in our operations, from housekeeping to administration. While we are working towards becoming an official green destination, we do our bit to be kind to the environment.

Duinepos Chalets is the ideal place where outdoor enthusiasts and families can have quality time. No television and limited mobile reception will ensure that days are spent in nature and evenings are filled with conversation, board games and books. The West Coast National Park offers much to do. Various hiking, biking and birding trails depart from the Duinepos camp and the Langebaan Lagoon is a water sport paradise.

  • "Peace and quiet"

    07 September 2017

"This time I requested a different chalet and we got no 4. It had a double bed, handwash soap and lemons, none of which were present in chalet no 1 where we had stayed 2 or 3 times before. If you need peace and quiet, this is the place to be. There is no television and no network reception. Absolute bliss. It's our first visit where we got rain so we just cooked inside, no braai this time, made a huge fire and relaxed."

  • "The stillness and the birdlife."

    23 April 2017

"This time our stay wasn't as pleasant as before. The place had an unpleasant smell and even though I put the sanitary towel container outside, the smell was still there. Too little toilet paper luckily I had brought some along. We forgot our torches and was so happy to find a torch under the sink only to find that the batteries were flat . Dead flies stuck to the ceiling didn't look good. Last time we were here there was complimentary coffee, so I didn't bring any. This time, no coffee and two ceylon teabags only. I was also hoping the complimentary lemons spoken of in the broschure would be present but alas no lemons. Looks like things are slipping overall and at the rate, it's not worth another visit."

  • "Excellent place to relax"

    20 February 2017

  • "Overnighter"

    23 January 2017

"We absolutely loved everything about our chalet, the birdbath, the fireplace, the bathroom equipped for the frail or disabled, the simple but practical outlay of the place and the sense of peace it created. The fact that we could cycle for hours on tar with fynbos on either side, the occasional animal you encounter on your ride, the restaurant at Geelbek. We only stayed one night but we felt well rested. Breakfast was divine. This is now our getaway place, We want to still visit the beach and maybe rent a houseboat and check out the bird hide. Will have to stay longer next time."

  • "Duinepos"

    30 September 2016

"We loved it there, was glad over the rain and enjoyed the long walk on the beach. We were sad to see all the rubbish, plastic, paper etc on the sand of the beach. It being a nature park! I'm sure the stuff came by sea but maybe once a day to check and remove it. Another thing on the boards next to the road geelbek restuarant was open summertime from August onwards until 18.00. Arriving there at 17.04 the door was closed into our faces telling us it closes at 17.00. Even mentioning we are hungry and have no food, was not even offered a piece of bread. Well thats never going to that restuarant again but the park itself was lovely. We enjoyed it."

  • "Much better than staying in Langebaan itself"

    06 October 2013

"I originally intended to stay in town, and am so glad I ended up in the park. The birdlife is amazing, and the park beautiful. Staff were very friendly on arrival, and the accommodation was basic, but clean, and everything needed. The complementary wood was much appreciated on a chilly, windy night. No view from the accommodation, but very peaceful, and I spent my time in the park in any event, so was only at chalet that night."

  • "Beautiful house with all the necessary facilities and with focus on recycling!"

    19 November 2012

"Duinepos Chalets are simply wonderful. Not only are they pretty to look at from the outside - very colourful, but have everything you need for a perfect weekend get-away inside! There are personal touches throughout the house, like e.g. hand-painted curtains on most of the windows. And they seem to care about the environment - having recycling bins in and outside the house and low energy use appliances. Definately a place to come back to!"
