  • "Definately dissapointing"

    26 August 2020

"The whole house had a very bad smell. We could not get rid of it. There were 7 x dinner plates, 4 x teaspoons, 6 small drinking glasses and 7 x forks for a 5 bedroomed house. The curtains were mouldy in all the rooms. The lounge chairs were so dirty we had to use upholstery cleaner and clean them ourseves, they were very bad. The dining room chairs were very stained and mouldy. The webber braai was completely rusted through. The pool heater hardly worked. It took 4 x days on and made almost no difference to the pool temp. The 3rd upstairs toilet did not flush properly. The freezer did not work at all. Would not even freeze ice over 3 days. The master bedroom chairs were broken beyond repair or use. The ceiling in the scullery and balcony was filthy and in bad need of a paint. The 2 x pool lounger cusions were very dirty and in a bad condition. This is really not acceptable for a 3 night stay costing R23000 in August (not high season). So dissapointed and we felt completely ripped off. It ruined what was supposed to be a lovely holiday. I took photos of everything listed above."

  • "Simply Disappointing!"

"Our experience at this vacation rental was profoundly disappointing. This house lacked the elegance and class you would assume normal at the Zimbali estate. Some examples of what we found: The 5th room – the guest room - was musty and completely unusable. When we tried to air it out, all sorts of creepy crawlies took up residence there. The air-conditioning in the room didn’t work. We were a party of 10 and needed all the rooms. We had to drag the mattress into the living room. We discovered that the mattress was damp and we had to layer the top with waterproof sheets. The wood on the terrace was rotted and unsafe, especially for children. The house was shabby. Living room furniture was worn out, chairs were ripped, a sleeper sofa unusable, unsafe, the dining room chairs were dirty and stained. The garden was completely unkempt, as was the driveway. This created a very negative perception of the appearance of the place. Bathroom floor mats – poor quality, dirty and ugly. These were never changed in the week. Bath towels – cheap, left your body covered with fluff. We were expected to make do with the same set of white bath towels for the entire 7 day stay. Ill equipped kitchen – no coffee maker, dishwasher. The house has extensive glass but none of the glassed areas were cleaned prior to our arrival. Dirty glass is extremely unappealing. We had maid service only for the first 3 days of our week long stay. Shocked to discover that the maid had no access to vacuum cleaner or proper cleaning equipment for this huge house. She used an old broom – the cheapest possible thing on the market – to sweep the entire house. Then she mopped with an equally tiny, old mop. That’s what we had to use too for the second half of the week, when there was no maid service. We paid double the normal rate for a service including maid service but it was not available for 4 out of 7 days. The owner saw fit to take our money but could not pay the maid double? There was no usable cd or dvd player. No music at Christmas time! The DSTV service was shut off for a day and took numerous phone calls to resolve. Half the light bulbs in the house were not working. There was no wireless internet service. This was not advertised as being available but these days this is a reasonable expectation. The beaches and pools were not a stone’s throw away as advertised. It was a half hour hike to the nearest beach."
